twinwall, baltic birch ply and acrylic

I made a lot of progress on this piece recently. It is to be part of a display, with six of these monument bases each holding a different item.

This version is mainly to get the size and shape of things figured out. The final choice of materials is still up in the air.

Version 1.3 includes a better way to secure the seat to the sides- it ain't goin' nowhere.

My bending technique has improved, but there are still a couple of refinements necessary before I'm satisfied with this one. And the selection of finish, of course.

Here, owing to the magic of the i-phone's self timer, I am half in and half out of the prototype polybotes.

I spent some time yesterday with a heat gun and epoxy-

It's suprisingly comfortable.

baltic birch ply and kydex

There was no time to make the parts for this, but it will be very simple in construction if the material is willing to cooperate. There may be some heating and bending required, and/or slots along the sharpest curves. 1/8" kydex is amazingly tough!

The atlas floor lamp starts like this:

That's fine for a concept, but I want to make it happen! Rather than just stick a bunch of light sockets on a pole, I thought I'd be able to get the bulbs closer together with a custom bulb holder.

tight cluster
This is about as tight as a cluster of five medium base bulbs can be.

The idea is to eliminate the socket. Here's a plan, using two offset brass strips to catch the threads of the bulb base, and a brass spring contacting the center of the base.

This can be extended to hold a row of bulbs-

-or copied and rotated to form a cluster of bulbs. On to prototyping!

There's more furniture coming. This sofa may never see the light of day, but it's fun!

Its name comes from the Lovecraft pantheon of gods and monsters- Gi-Hovig being described as a cosmic-entity manifesting as a gigantic, spongy, and fleshy mass...

Doesn't that sound inviting?
