because you believed it

Yesterday I was told that Joan Didion believed that there is a void at the center of existance. I have the greatest respect for an explorer like her, because, unlike Columbus or Ponce de León, she had the courage to admit that she had discovered nothing.

Never the less, she believed in that emptiness she discovered, and she thrived to a ripe old age, which gets me to the point that it really doesn't matter what it is that you believe in, what matters is believing.

So I celebrate the deeply flawed belief system that is Christianity in large part because it demands that we forsake all common sense. Just don't let me hear any Christians demanding that others must give up their own improbable, if deeply held, beliefs. Believe in the moon! It's alright.

Because You Believed It

Because You Believed It

I sit alone in the dark
My heart's a question mark
I want to be free again
Don't keep me waiting in vain
Don't keep me waiting in vain

Pressure's on my mind
You can relieve it
We're two of a kind
You can't conceive it
Now you've crossed the line
Because You Believed It
Because You Believed It

Locked up for seventy years
None of the pain disappears
Memories that time can't erase
I see all over your face
I see them all in your face

Pressure's on my mind
You can relieve it
We're two of a kind
You can't conceive it
Now you've crossed the line
Because You Believed It
Because You Believed It

Birds fly and what do they care
What keeps them up in the air?
Don't fear what you may reap
The angels are asleep
The angels are asleep
The angels are asleep

Pressure's on my mind
You can relieve it
We're two of a kind
You can't conceive it
Now you've crossed the line
Because You Believed It
Because You Believed It
