| Maybe it's wrong of me to believe this, but what argument can be made that it won't happen? I also believe, in fact, I am entirely certain, that there will one day be a Final Superbowl. Will we know ahead of time that it's the last one? |

When I thought of putting an X on the moon years ago it wasn't because I thought it was good advertising, but because I thought it would give some post-apocalypse conscious beings food for thought. If we manage to incinerate ourselves and turn all vestages of our civilization to dust, an artificial symbol on the moon may be the only trace left behind. Yes, of course we need to leave something to show the intelligent cockroaches that we've been here. It's only human. |
| One thing I believe about the moon is that it has had a lot to do with life here on earth. We are deeply connected somehow. I wrote a song about it and got some friends to record it with me. I think this is Bev and Rick Bowman on bass and drums, and I'm sure it's Doug Riley on mandolin. Moon believers all! |

So, among the possible futures for humankind is "the end of the world as we know it", but that doesn't have to be a bad thing. Maybe we will turn to some other sporting event to cheer about, and American football will fail to interest enough of us to maintain the spectacle. Maybe the high cost of insurance will doom the game? Or maybe we will advance beyond being entertained by watching people train for years to beat the crap out of each other? Nah. Probably not. As for the moon, I can't see anything in the near future to prevent some trillionaire from building a rocket ship and some A.I. construction vehicles and taking it upon themselves to leave marks there. However, if I had my way, it would be this one. |
