![]() I recently found a "live" acoustic recording of a song I wrote about learning to live with mistakes. This is one of a bunch of tunes I had written about love relationships. Not only about how they are when they're wonderful, but also about how they are when they're somewhat more... problematic. They are love songs for grown-ups, I suppose. ![]() Cycles 2012 Victoria Mowrer The Precious Thing A precious thing was given me To keep it safe, and for a while I held it close beside my heart I felt it was a part of me Oh now I see The precious thing What I had most I valued least And through neglect I let it fall And as it drifted from my reach Denied it had been there at all Oh now I see The precious thing It wasn't greed, it wasn't lust That bound my arms and blinded me 'The gift that tender love had made Was swollowed by my vanity Oh now I see The precious thing A weight as heavy as a stone Now I must carry everywhere Had I lived for my heart alone Would be like feathers on the air Oh now I see The precious thing Now I see the precious thing |
